题目:Heterogeneous Integrated Photonics: Platform, Devices and Applications
Abstract:
Fully-integrated optoelectronic system is highly demanded in applications including data com, data interconnect, computing, data storage, sensing and instrumentation, etc. Heterogeneous integrated photonics is a platform technology enabling III-V semiconductor materials to be integrated on silicon substrate, and utilizes the III-V semiconductor photonics and silicon for dense photonic device integration.
Some key enabling technologies developed recently will be introduced in this talk, which include 1) compact III-V/Si integration platform, 2) on-chip laser devices, 3) optical chip coupling and 4) material engineering for integrated photonics etc.
The key challenges and innovative solutions advanced manufacturing techniques and application examples will be discussed.
Introduction of the speaker:
Wang Qian received his PhD degree from Zhejiang University of China in 2004. He is currently working in the Data Storage Institute of Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) as a senior scientist and program leader.
His main research topics include: 1) compact III-V/Si photonic integration and on-chip laser technology for optoelectronic subsystem on chip; 2) aberration-free on-chip graded index microlens for high-efficiency fiber-to-chip/laser-to-chip coupling; 3) Integrated light delivery system for next generation high-density data storage; 4) cost-effective all-fiber sensors/wavelength meters and 5) advanced optoelectronic simulation and automatic photonic design.
He authored and co-authored about 120 patents/journal papers and refereed conference papers in above areas and research works have been highlighted by a number of trade journals including Asia Research News (2015), Photonic Spectrum, Laser focus World and Novus Light Technologies.
